Tech Extension

Bridging the divide between academic research and communities of practice

What We Do

Created in 2020, Tech Extension partners with community leaders and university researchers across the country to create Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) experiences for youth and families that connect to social and economic development goals.

With funding from the National Science Foundation, and with university partnerships that include University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) and Boston University’s Earl Center for Learning & Innovation, the Tech Extension is currently working on several initiatives to bring direct STEM learning opportunities to youth in rec center and hospital settings. To help others replicate and scale this work, the Tech Extension develops toolkits and resources to support organizations seeking to launch their own programs, including creating their localized versions of our Tech Center in their communities.

Current Programs

Rec-to-Tech U

In partnership with the University of Maryland – Baltimore County, we are co-creating STEM experiences in Rec Centers in Pittsburgh and Baltimore

Nurturant STEM

In partnership with Boston University, we are co-creating STEM experiences for patients and their families in pediatric hospital units

To help us build a robust community and foster innovation we work to go above and beyond. This is only possible because of the generosity and support of the community. Please help us create opportunities more available to more communities by making a financial contribution to support this important work.
