Indirect Cost Policy

Purpose

At the Digital Harbor Foundation, we are committed to transparency, accountability, and responsible financial management to ensure the effective pursuit of our mission. This Indirect Cost Policy outlines our principles and practices regarding the allocation of indirect costs, recognizing the importance of balancing essential overhead expenses with our dedication to programmatic impact.

Our organization is dedicated to maximizing the impact of every dollar. By responsibly managing indirect costs, we strive to direct the majority of our resources toward programmatic activities, empowering us to make a meaningful difference in the communities we serve. We embrace the principles of financial stewardship, recognizing that the prudent management of indirect costs is crucial for the long-term sustainability of our organization. We are committed to efficiently utilizing resources to achieve our objectives while maintaining fiscal responsibility.

Our indirect cost policy aims to establish clear guidelines for the fair and consistent allocation of indirect costs across programs and activities.

Policy

In line with other established nonprofit grant-makers, such as the Gates Foundation policy, our indirect cost rates for grants are subject to the following limitations: 0% indirect for government agencies and private foundations; at most 10% in indirect costs to universities; and at most 15% in indirect costs to nongovernmental organizations.

For-profit entities may propose indirect costs as a percentage from 0% to 15% and should provide supporting documentation justifying the requested indirect cost rate. Digital Harbor Foundation will seek documentation to support the requested indirect cost rate. We reserve the right to request substantiation of any grantee’s indirect cost rate.
